Professional Sunroom Contractor in Highland CA - More Usable Space Off Your House

Horizon Highland Sunrooms & Patios builds sunroom additions and patio enclosures for homes in Highland, Redlands and the cities around them. We also turn tired old decks into sunrooms and build custom rooms that fit the rooflines of older houses.

A bright enclosed patio with large windows, tiled floor and blue wicker seating with colorful cushions.

We plan and build sunrooms and patio rooms for Highland homeowners who want more usable space off the back of the house and someone to think it through with them.

Highland is its own city in San Bernardino County, with houses of every age. The Highland Historic District is on the state's historic listings, and the Highland Area Historical Society points to its early 1900s architecture, such as Craftsman bungalows. Older houses like those are some of my favorite places to add a room, because the roof pitch, the old framing and the way a new room ties in all take some working out.

Out at the eastern end of Base Line, the Natural Parkland Trail is used by walkers, cyclists and people on horseback, and the city's trail guide notes that walkers there are standing on the San Andreas Fault Line. We're based in Highland and build all over the city and the cities around it, so wherever your house is, we aren't far away.

Why homeowners call usThought through, then built.

Got an odd deck or a low roofline? Tell us about your house and I'll come take a look.

  1. Planned with you, in person

I come out myself to look over your house, the base and how you'll use the room. The written estimate spells out what the room includes and what it leaves out.

  2. Plans and permits handled

We check with the city or county office that covers your address. When your job calls for it, we prepare and file the plans and permit paperwork, so you aren't sorting it out alone.

  3. Awkward jobs, built right

An old deck, a low roofline or an uneven patio are jobs we enjoy. Our own crew builds it, starting with what it sits on and how it joins the house.

Sunroom contractor services in Highland, CA

Horizon Highland Sunrooms & Patios is a sunroom contractor in Highland, and our 16 services run from a simple screen room to a full four season addition. The price mostly turns on the size of the room, the glass and framing, whether it's built for use all year with wiring and heating and cooling, and what it sits on, since an old deck or an uneven slab may need work first. The schedule turns on the plan review at the city or county office for your address and on what we find once we open up the base. Your free on-site estimate spells out what your room would include.

  • Sunroom addition with a translucent paneled roof, screened windows, and blue-cushioned patio seating.

    Sunroom additions

A sunroom addition is a new glass-walled room built onto your house, with its own footing and a roof tied into yours. It's for homeowners who want real living space off the back.

  • Four-season sunroom with white framing and a peaked glass gable, attached to a house overlooking a green valley.

    Four season sunrooms

Want a room you can sit in in July and in January? We build four season sunrooms with insulated walls and glass, and our licensed trade partners add the heating and cooling.

  • Three-season sunroom showing a translucent paneled roof, screened windows, and white framing beside a gray-sided house.

    Three season sunrooms

We build three season sunrooms for spring, summer and fall, with lighter framing and no heating or cooling, which keeps the room simpler than a four season build.

  • Patio enclosure with a black-framed screen roof and walls, wicker seating, and a view of trees and marshland.

    Patio enclosures

If your covered patio collects dust and leaves, we can close it in with windows or screens. First we check that the slab and cover you already have can carry it.

  • Custom sunroom with dark-framed floor-to-ceiling windows extending along a modern white house beside a paved patio.

    Custom sunrooms

Custom sunrooms are for houses that don't suit a standard layout, like a low roofline, an odd corner or an older home. We shape the room around what's already there.

  • A white-framed sunroom addition with tall windows opens onto a raised deck with white railings and stairs beside a solar-paneled house.

    Sunroom construction

We handle the whole build, from footing and framing to roof, glass and trim, with our own crew doing the work.

  • A white-framed sunroom with a peaked glass gable glows at sunset beside a stone house, with trees and a river in the background.

    Sunroom remodeling

Is your old sunroom too hot, leaky or dated? We replace tired glass, roof panels and finishes and fix how it joins the house, so the room gets used again.

  • A black-framed screened patio enclosure surrounds a pool beside a stucco house at sunset.

    Screen room installation

A screen room keeps bugs out and lets the breeze through, with a roof overhead. It suits homeowners who want an outdoor feel without the flies.

  • A large white-framed sunroom with a high peaked roof and tall windows extends from a house onto a stone patio.

    Patio-to-sunroom conversion

We turn an existing patio into a sunroom, starting with the slab, because a patio that isn't level needs work before any walls go on it.

  • A white-framed sunroom with tall windows is attached to a brick house beside a raised wooden deck and landscaped garden.

    Deck-to-sunroom conversion

An old deck can carry a sunroom only if its posts and framing are up to it. We check what's under there first, then build on it or rebuild the base.

  • White, glass-walled sunroom addition on a red-brick house, beside a landscaped lawn and stone patio dining area.

    All season rooms

What's an all season room? It's a fully closed-in room built for everyday use all year, insulated and comfortable like the rest of the house.

  • Covered patio enclosed with dark mesh screens and wood posts beside a brick house, with a concrete floor and porch swing.

    Enclosed patio rooms

We build enclosed patio rooms with walls, windows and a solid roof for families who want an extra room for meals, hobbies or the kids.

  • Glass solarium attached to a white house, warmly lit at sunset and furnished with sofas and a dining table.

    Solarium installation

A solarium has glass overhead as well as on the walls. It's for homeowners who want as much light and sky as a room can give them.

  • Wooden patio cover shelters seating beside a glass-enclosed room and swimming pool.

    Patio cover installation

We build patio covers that shade your patio and tie cleanly into your roofline, for backyards that get too hot to sit in during the afternoon.

  • White sunroom with a peaked roof and tall grid windows attached to a brick house, overlooking a landscaped stone patio.

    Sunroom design

Sunroom design is where I measure the house, ask how you'll use the room and work out its size, roof and glass before anything gets built.

  • A white-framed glass sunroom extends from a gray two-story house beside a landscaped lawn at sunset.

    Vinyl sunrooms

Vinyl sunrooms use vinyl framing that doesn't need painting. They suit homeowners who want an easy-care room they don't have to fuss over.

Sunroom questions from Highland homeownersStraight answers, plain words.

How much does a sunroom cost in Highland, CA?

There's no single figure, because the price comes down to the room's size, whether it's a three season or four season room, and how it sits on and joins your house. A four season room needs insulated walls and glass and usually heating and cooling, so it costs more than a three season room of the same size. I'll write up a figure for your room once I've looked over the house.

How much of a down payment can a contractor ask for in California?

California caps the down payment on a home improvement job at $1,000 or 10 percent of the total contract price, whichever is less. Any other payments have to be listed in the contract and tied to work done or materials delivered, so you can see what each one is for.

How long does it take to get a sunroom built in Highland?

It depends mostly on how long the plans take at the city or county office for your address, and on how big and involved the room is. In Highland, a new structure goes through the city's Planning Division before its plans reach Building and Safety, and a deck or slab that needs work adds to the build. I'll tell you what your job hinges on once I've seen it.

Does a sunroom contractor need a license in California?

Yes, a contractor needs a license from the Contractors State License Board to build or alter a structure when the job needs a building permit, uses additional workers or costs $1,000 or more in labor and materials. We're licensed and fully insured, and we bring in licensed trade partners when a room needs wiring or heating and cooling.

Do I need a permit for a sunroom addition in Highland?

Usually yes, because the City of Highland's Building Department issues permits for additions, and a sunroom attached to your house is an addition. We check with the city or county office that covers your address and prepare and file the plans and permit paperwork when your job calls for it. If you'd like to see how it works, the city takes applications through its online permit portal.

Can you build a sunroom on my existing deck or patio?

Often yes, as long as the deck or slab can carry the room, and that's the first thing I check. An old deck's posts and framing, or a patio that isn't level, may need to be rebuilt or shored up first, and I'd rather sort that out than build on top of it and hope.

Do you guarantee your sunroom work?

Yes, our work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee. At the end we walk the finished room with you, so anything you're not happy with gets talked through while we're still there.

Will a sunroom get too hot in Highland summers?

It can if it isn't planned for the sun, so we look at which way the room faces before we pick the glass and the roof. Summer afternoons here get hot, and a four season room with heating and cooling, or a solid roof instead of glass overhead, keeps the room usable when it counts.
